In 1928, Paul Dirac published a beautiful equation that combined quantum theory and special relativity to describe the behavior of the electron moving at relativistic speed.
The problem arises when there are two solutions to particle’s energy. One is positive (E>0) and the other is negative (E<0).
This should not be acceptable because we get that from classical physics, the energy of free body is positive.
Then, Dirac came up with the solution that there should be other particle that is exactly matching the corresponding particle, but with different electrical charge.
By holding this interpretation, we could say that there will be positive electron, which is exactly the same except it’s opposite in charge. This particle is called positron.
Well, if there is an antimatter of electron which is one of the smallest component of life, we could say that there will be anti living organism somewhere that contains antimatter.
The problem is that (this is one of the biggest mystery in physics) the amount of matter find in the universe is so many more than the amount of antimatter!
This problem is called the matter-antimatter asymmetry problem.
This makes completely parallel universe based solely on matter-antimatter existence probably not exist.
Once more, the problem is that (this is one of the biggest mystery in physics) the amount of matter find in the universe is so many more than the amount of antimatter!
This is one of the biggest mystery in Physics because how could that happen?
From Einstein’s popular mass-energy equation we knew that mass could be transformed to energy, and the other way around.
When matter and antimatter met, they will annihilate each other. But, the mass that disappeared will be transformed to be energy.
And many people speculate that this is what happen at the big bang. The energy at the big bang then transformed to be equal amount of matter and antimatter.
The problem is the amount of matter find in the universe is so many more than the amount of antimatter! Where did it go?
